Duo is Colorado State University’s multi-factor authentication (MFA) tool, used to protect user accounts by requiring a second form of verification beyond a username and password. When accessing CSU services—including Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive), GlobalProtect VPN, Banner, and other systems—students, faculty, and staff must verify their identity using a mobile app, security key, or hardware token.

Individuals who do not have a smartphone can use a Duo Security Token to access CSU Systems. Those who have the Duo App on their phones DO NOT need to purchase a security token.

Important Note Before Purchasing

This Duo Security Token is intended only for individuals who cannot use the Duo Mobile App on a smartphone or cannot use the Duo app due to accessibility needs. If you have access to a smartphone, you can use the Duo app to meet CSU’s multi-factor authentication (MFA) requirements—no additional hardware is needed.

Before purchasing, please confirm that a hardware token is truly necessary. Many users can meet MFA requirements using their phone at no additional cost. You can find Duo app download links on the Department of IT Duo website.
