Charging Your Order to a Credit Card
For your convenience, the CSU Bookstore accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express for online and In-Store purchases.
Our Process for Online Credit Card Charges
- Authorization
- When you place your order with us, we authorize your card, placing a hold on the funds in your account. Authorization holds are removed from your account within 24-72 hours, depending on your financial institution’s policies.
- Settlement
- When we ship your order, we will “settle” the authorization on your card for the items we are shipping, plus applicable taxes and shipping charges. Sometimes, if the authorization has not cleared your account, it may look like there are two charges on your account.
- Additional Charges
- This commonly happens if you request a used book, but only new copies are available. As a result, a separate charge may appear on your statement for the difference between the price of a used book and the new book. On other occasions additional charges are collected as a result of additional shipping charges
Our system places an authorization hold for funds on your card, even if the transaction is declined. The hold on the authorized funds will remain on your card until the card issuing bank removes the authorization.
As a result, the held funds may be subtracted from your available balance, and an online statement may reflect the authorization hold request which might be mistaken for an actual charge. Most card issuing banks will remove authorization holds within 1–2 days if they are not claimed for settlement.
