Additional Adoption Information

Desk Copies

Publishers will send desk copies or instructor copies only to a faculty member or the faculty member's home department. To order desk copies, please request from your Department Textbook Coordinator or contact the publisher directly. Our adoption home page has several links to the largest publishing houses but please feel free to call us if you need a publisher's phone or FAX number.

Buy Back

Buy Back always begins the Thursday prior to Finals Week and continues through the following Saturday at the end of finals. Placing your final textbook orders prior to finals week is crucial to defraying the ever-increasing cost of materials for CSU Students. Not only do students earn more on their sale, the following semester's students reap the benefits by having more used books available on our shelves.

Overstock Returns

Approximately 6 weeks before the semester ends the Bookstore is required to return all leftover stock to the publishers and wholesalers we purchased from. This is not only necessary in order to receive credit for merchandise we've already paid for, but also to make room on the shelves for the upcoming semester.

Textbook Order Deadlines and Incentives

Summer = March 15
Fall Semester = April 15
Spring Semester = October 15

The CSU Bookstore, in partnership with our wholesalers, has been committed to providing incentives to faculty and department staff for meeting these deadlines in the past. We hope to continue this "reward" program in the future. Please speak to your Department Textbook Coordinator for current incentive details.

Course Packets

Course packets are created or compiled by the professor and submitted to one of the Fast Print offices on campus or to Kinko's Copies. The order process begins when the professor delivers the manuscript to printer. The printer is required to obtain copyright clearance on any copyrighted materials before printing and this process can be lengthy. Once copyright clearance has been obtained, the printer will contact the Bookstore for our order. If you are using an unrevised packet that has been previously copied, you just need to call Kinko’s or Fast Print and ask them to reprint the previous packet. Copyrighted materials must be requested every semester.

Textbook Adoption Website

The Textbook Adoption Website is a password protected site used primarily by Department Textbook Coordinators. If you are interested in receiving training on the site and the password, please contact Linda Burrous at 491-0587 or your Department Textbook Coordinator.

Copyrighted Materials

Both Fast Print (under Printing & Publications Department of University Relations) and Kinko's must obtain copyright permission for any copyrighted materials included in your packet. This process can take one day or several months so it is always safest to get your manuscript in early. Copyright fess, if charged, are incorporated into the price of the packet.

Problem Titles

The Textbook Ordering Business is quite dynamic these days. Titles go out of print, have delayed printing dates, get backordered or get re-packaged by the publisher with a variety of supplemental materials. Issues like these often crop up during semester breaks when faculty are off campus. The CSU Bookstore staff want to make sure you are informed and making the decision when problems or questions arise. Making sure your Department Textbook Coordinator can reach you during the breaks is a great way to avoid being surprised at the beginning of the semester.
